Wedding Invitation Message for WhatsApp in Hindi and English: Wordings for Every Relative

The few lines you type above the invitation link, written for each relative and each function. Every Hindi wording has a Hinglish twin.

In short

A wedding invitation message for WhatsApp opens with the guest's name, says whose wedding it is and how you are related, gives the date and city, adds one personal line, puts the invitation link on its own line and says how to reply. Keep it to five to eight short lines. Call elders before you send it, and send it to each person separately.

On this page
  1. What should a WhatsApp wedding invitation message say?
  2. Which tone and language suits each relative? (kisko kaise likhein)
  3. Wedding invitation message from parents to elders and relatives
  4. Messages from parents to family friends and neighbours
  5. Marriage invitation messages for friends (doston ke liye)
  6. For a sister's or brother's wedding (didi ya bhaiya ki shaadi)
  7. Wedding invitation messages for office colleagues and the boss
  8. What should go in the family WhatsApp group?
  9. Messages for NRI relatives abroad: IST and their local time
  10. Invitations to one function: haldi, mehndi, sangeet or reception
  11. Wedding reminder messages: a week before and the day before
  12. Why type the first line yourself instead of forwarding?
  13. Questions people ask

This guide is about the few lines you type above the invitation link, not the card itself. The card's own text, with the shloka (the opening verse to Ganesh ji), the parents' names and the schedule, is in our guide to shadi card matter in Hindi. Here the messages are sorted by who sends them to whom, and every Hindi wording has a Hinglish twin for people who type Hindi in English letters.

What should a WhatsApp wedding invitation message say?

A WhatsApp wedding invitation message needs six things, in this order. Each one takes a line or less, so the whole message fits on a phone screen above the link.

  1. Open with the guest's name and the greeting you would use on the phone: pranaam (a respectful greeting) for elders, namaste for family friends, a first name for friends.
  2. Say whose wedding it is and how you are related: our son, my didi, our daughter.
  3. Give the date and the city, so the message makes sense before the link is opened.
  4. Add one line that is only for this person: a request for their blessings, the years you have known them, their place at the sangeet.
  5. Paste the link on a line of its own, with nothing else typed on that line.
  6. End with how to reply and who is sending: your name, your family and the number to call.

The message matters because WhatsApp is where the invitation gets read. The government quoted 53 crore WhatsApp users in India in its press release of 25 February 2021, and Sensor Tower found that 94% of India's monthly WhatsApp users opened the app every day in November 2025 (TechCrunch, 14 December 2025). The line above your link is read before the card is opened.

Which tone and language suits each relative? (kisko kaise likhein)

Write to each guest in the language they write to you in, and in the tone you would use on the phone with them. Customs differ between families, so treat the table as a starting point and follow your own elders.

Wedding invitation message from parents to elders and relatives

A message from the parents to an elder is formal, short and asks for blessings. In many North Indian families it follows a phone call or a visit with the card, and it never replaces either. Sapariwar, in the wordings below, means with the whole family.

For a daughter's wedding, write हमारी सुपुत्री [वधू का नाम] का शुभ विवाह [वर का नाम] के साथ, or in Hinglish, hamari suputri [vadhu ka naam] ka shubh vivah [var ka naam] ke saath.

The same message in Hinglish
Aadarniya [naam] ji, saadar pranaam. Aapke aashirwad ke bina yeh shubh karya adhoora hai, aap sapariwar avashya padharein. Nimantran patra: [link] Aap kitne log aayenge, isi number par bata dijiyega. [Aapka naam] evam parivar
The same message in English, for relatives who read English
Dear [Name] ji, Pranaam. By God's grace, our son [Groom's name] is getting married to [Bride's name] on [date] in [city]. The day will not be complete without your blessings, so please come with the whole family. The invitation is here: [link] Please let us know on this number how many of you will come. [Your name] and family

Messages from parents to family friends and neighbours

A message to family friends and neighbours is warm rather than formal, and it can mention the years you have known each other. For old family friends who live close, many parents still go over with the card and send this message afterwards.

From the bride's parents to family friends or neighbours (Hindi)

For a son's wedding, change the line to: हमारे बेटे [वर का नाम] का विवाह [वधू का नाम] के साथ है।

The same message in Hinglish
Namaste [naam] ji, aapko yeh batate hue hamein bahut khushi ho rahi hai ki [date] ko hamari beti [vadhu ka naam] ka vivah [var ka naam] ke saath hai. Itne barson ka saath hai, is khushi mein aap sapariwar shaamil hon, yahi hamari ichha hai. Karyakram aur sthan is link par hain: [link] [Aapka naam] evam parivar

Marriage invitation messages for friends (doston ke liye)

The couple invite their own friends, in their own voice. A little humour is fine as long as it would not embarrass anyone if a parent read it over your shoulder.

From the bride or groom to a close friend (Hinglish)
[Naam], finally ho raha hai: [date] ko [shahar] mein meri aur [partner ka naam] ki shaadi hai. Tere bina na haldi poori hogi, na sangeet. Saare functions ki details yahan hain: [link] Pakka aana. Reply mein haan likh de, rooms ka hisaab lagana hai.
With a little humour, to a friend (Hinglish)
[Naam], ab koi bahana nahi chalega. [Date] ko [shahar] mein meri aur [partner ka naam] ki shaadi hai, aur sangeet par tumhara dance mummy ne pehle se list mein daal diya hai. Saari details: [link] Kitne log aa rahe ho, reply kar dena.
For friends who read English
Hi [Name], [Partner's name] and I are getting married on [date] in [city], and it would not feel right without you there. Every function, from the mehndi to the reception, is on this link: [link] Tell us which ones you can make it to, so we can plan rooms and seats.

For a sister's or brother's wedding (didi ya bhaiya ki shaadi)

A brother or sister inviting their own friends writes more warmly than the parents and less formally. Saying that your parents asked for the guest tells them the invitation comes from the whole family, not only from you.

The same message in Hinglish
[Naam], [meri didi / mere bhaiya] [naam] ki shaadi [date] ko [shahar] mein hai. Ghar mein taiyariyan zoron par hain aur mummy-papa ne khaas kaha hai ki tumhe zaroor bulaun. Saare karyakram is link par hain: [link] Jis-jis function mein aa sako, bata dena.

Wedding invitation messages for office colleagues and the boss

Office invitations are short, in English, and say plainly which functions the colleague is invited to. Most colleagues come to the reception or one evening function, so name it, and say whether their family is invited too.

To office colleagues
Hi [Name], I am getting married on [date] in [city], and I would be glad to have you at the reception on [date] at [venue], from [time]. The invitation, with the venue map, is here: [link] Please let me know by [date] if you can come.
To the boss, for the reception only
Dear [Name], As I mentioned, my wedding is on [date]. We are holding a reception on [date] at [venue], [city], from [time], and it would mean a great deal to me and my family if you could join us with your family. The invitation and the map are here: [link] With regards, [Your name]

The boss's message begins "As I mentioned" because it should follow a word in person. If your family has printed cards, hand one over at the office as well; the link then keeps the venue map on their phone.

What should go in the family WhatsApp group?

Post the wedding in the family WhatsApp group only after every household in it has had its own call or message. A group post keeps everyone on the same dates and the same link, but sent instead of a personal invitation it tells an elder they were invited along with everyone else.

For the family group, after the personal invitations (Hindi)
The same message in Hinglish

Messages for NRI relatives abroad: IST and their local time

NRI relatives need the dates early, to book flights and leave, and the times written in both IST and their own clock. Send the message in their morning, so it is the first thing they read and not a buzz in the middle of their night.

Clocks abroad change during the wedding season, so work out your own date: the UK goes back an hour on 25 October 2026 and forward on 28 March 2027 (GOV.UK), and the US goes back on 1 November 2026 and forward on 14 March 2027 (NIST's rule). The table shows one December evening.

If your invitation has an add-to-calendar button, add a line asking them to tap it for each function and to check the time their calendar shows.

To a chacha or bua abroad (Hinglish)
[Chacha ji / Bua ji], namaste. Aap sab ke bina ghar ki shaadi adhoori lagegi, ho sake to zaroor aaiye. Invitations to one function: haldi, mehndi, sangeet or reception

A guest invited to one function needs a message that names that function, with its date, time and place. If the invitation link shows every function, a guest asked only to the reception may fairly think they are expected at the haldi too, so either send them a version with only their function or say it plainly in the first line.

The haldi is the turmeric ceremony, usually at home in the morning; the mehndi is the henna evening; the sangeet is the music and dance night. Hindi cards often call the reception प्रीतिभोज (preetibhoj, the dinner) or आशीर्वाद समारोह (the blessing ceremony).

Haldi, for close family and friends (Hinglish)
[Naam], [date] ki subah [time] baje ghar par [dulhe / dulhan ka naam] ki haldi hai. Sirf ghar ke log aur kareebi dost honge, aap zaroor aaiye. Peela pehen kar aana, aur kapde kharab hone ka dar ho to purane hi pehen lena. Pata: [ghar ka pata] [link]
Mehndi (Hinglish)
[Naam], [date] ko shaam [time] baje [jagah] par [dulhan ka naam] ki mehndi hai. Mehndi lagane wale poori shaam rahenge, apni baari pakki samjho. Khana wahin hai. [link]
Sangeet (English)
Hi [Name], the sangeet is on [date] at [venue], from [time]. Expect dhol, a family dance-off and dinner. Dress code: [colour or theme]. [link] Tell us by [date] if you want a slot on the floor.
Reception only, from the parents (Hindi)

Wedding reminder messages: a week before and the day before

A wedding reminder message types out the time and venue of each function the guest is invited to, in plain text. Typed details still work when the link will not load on a weak signal, and they turn up when a guest searches their WhatsApp chats for the venue's name.

List only the functions that guest is invited to. For how many days before the wedding each reminder should go, see when to send wedding invitations in India.

[Naam] ji, namaste. [Var ka naam] aur [vadhu ka naam] ki shaadi mein ab ek hafta baaki hai. Aapke karyakram: Haldi: [date], subah [time], [jagah], [shahar] Baraat aur phere: [date], shaam [time], [jagah], [shahar] Reception: [date], shaam [time], [jagah], [shahar] Map aur poori jaankari: [link] Aap aa rahe hain, yeh bata dein to intezaam mein aasani rahegi.
The day before (English)
Hi [Name], see you tomorrow. Baraat: [time], from [starting point] Phere: [time], [venue name], [full address with a landmark] Parking: [where] If you get lost, call [helper's name] on [number]. Map: [link]

Why type the first line yourself instead of forwarding?

A message typed for one person reads as an invitation; the same message forwarded reads as a circular. WhatsApp puts a "Forwarded" label on a message that reached the sender from someone else (WhatsApp Help Center), and a message forwarded many times carries double arrows (WhatsApp, 7 April 2020). An elder who sees either knows the words were not written for them.

The label comes from the forward button, so copy a wording from this page, paste it into the guest's own chat and type their name into the first line. Keep the link on its own line, with the words above and below it, so it is easy to tap and nothing typed beside it runs into the address. The sending itself, from saving numbers to the link preview, is in how to send a wedding invitation on WhatsApp.

A personal link carries the same idea onto the card. Several invitation websites, Sadar Nimantran's among them, put each guest's name on the cover and in the WhatsApp preview: the Sharma family's link ends in /Sharma-Parivar, and their reply opens WhatsApp already written out to you. See it on our WhatsApp wedding invitation card page or in every sample. Ours costs ₹499 (Shagun) or ₹1,999 (Parivar), a limited-time launch offer on list prices of ₹999 and ₹3,999 (packages). A photo of a printed card under a typed personal line is a perfectly good invitation too.

Three sample wedding invitations to open: Kartik and Naina's shaadi in Jaipur, Gurnoor and Simar's Anand Karaj in Amritsar, and Arsalan and Inaya's nikah in Lucknow. The names are made up.

Questions people ask

Should a wedding invitation message be in Hindi or English?

Write in the language the guest writes to you in. Elders who read Hindi usually prefer Devanagari, relatives who type Hindi in English letters are at ease with Hinglish, and colleagues or friends from other states read English most easily. Many families send the same invitation link to everyone and change only the message above it.

Should the guest's name be in the WhatsApp invitation message?

Yes. Put it in the first line, with the greeting you would use on the phone: Mausi ji, Sharma ji, or a friend's first name. A name shows the message was written for that person and not forwarded to a list, and the first line is what shows in the notification before they open the chat.

Is it rude to invite someone to a wedding only on WhatsApp?

For friends, colleagues and most relatives of your own age, a personal WhatsApp message is now an ordinary invitation. For elders and close family, many North Indian families still call or visit with a card first and send the link afterwards, so the dates and maps are on their phone. Follow what your own elders expect.

What should a wedding reminder message say?

A reminder names each function the guest is invited to, with the date, time and full venue address typed out, a landmark or parking note, and a number to call, then the link. Typed details still work without mobile data, and they turn up when the guest searches their chats for the venue.

How long should a WhatsApp wedding invitation message be?

About five to eight short lines above the link is enough. The card or invitation website carries the full schedule, so the message needs only the greeting, whose wedding it is, the date and city, one personal line, the link and how to reply. A longer message can be cut short in the notification.

Who should send the WhatsApp invitation, the parents or the couple?

In many North Indian families the parents invite elders, relatives and family friends, and the couple invite their own friends and colleagues; brothers and sisters often invite their own friends too. The same link can go to everyone. What changes is who signs the message, so each guest hears from the person they know.
