In short
A digital wedding invitation in India costs about ₹70 to ₹600 for a template image e-card, ₹300 to ₹7,000 for a video and ₹999 to ₹2,999 for a standard invitation website, paid once for the whole guest list. A printed card costs ₹15 to ₹500 each, most ₹40 to ₹150, before envelopes, postage and sweets. Prices checked 3 October 2026.

Invitations are one of the few wedding costs a family can work out to the rupee before anything is booked. This guide adds up what a printed shaadi card costs by the time it reaches a relative's door, sets that beside the three digital routes (an image, a video and an invitation website), and works through a 420-guest wedding three ways. Every price links to the page it came from, checked on 3 October 2026 unless another date is given.
What does each kind of wedding invitation cost?
A printed wedding card is paid for per card, while every digital format is paid for once, however many families receive it. The table sets the four formats side by side, with the ranges sellers and planners listed in October 2026.
| Format | Typical cost | Paid per card or once | If a date or venue changes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Printed card | ₹15 to ₹500 a card, most spend ₹40 to ₹150; box cards ₹500 to ₹2,000 or more | Per card, plus envelope, delivery and any sweets | A reprint, or a phone call to every family | Planner's cost guide, 17 Sep 2026 |
| Image e-card (JPG or PDF) | ₹70 to ₹600 for a template | Once | A new image, sent again | Template site, video studio |
| Video invitation | ₹299 to ₹6,999 for templates and custom videos | Once | A new video file, sent again | Template site, wedding-planning site |
| Invitation website | ₹999 to ₹2,999 for standard packages; bespoke from ₹14,999 at one studio | Once | The same link is updated, and guests see the new details | Five studios' price pages, linked below |
Two things sit outside the table. A printed card's total climbs with every family you add, while a digital invitation's stays the same. And many printed cards travel with a box of mithai (sweets) and a visit, which no link replaces. The sections below count both.
How much does a printed wedding card cost per card? (ek card ka rate)
A printed wedding card in India costs about ₹15 to ₹500 per card, and most couples spend ₹40 to ₹150, according to Velvet Knot's cost guide, a wedding planner's page updated 17 September 2026. Box invitations, often filled with sweets or dry fruit, start around ₹500 and can pass ₹2,000 a piece.
| Tier | Planner's guide, 17 Sep 2026 | Second guide, 25 Aug 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹15 to ₹50 | Not given as a tier |
| Mid-range or standard | ₹50 to ₹200 | ₹35 to ₹90, one insert |
| Premium | ₹200 to ₹500 | ₹150 to ₹400, foiled, 3 or more inserts |
| Box or luxury | ₹500 to ₹2,000 or more | ₹600 to ₹2,500, with sweets or dry fruit |
The second guide comes from a company that sells digital invitations, as we do, and its figures are its own estimates without sources. Read both as ranges, not price lists.
What real listings show
- A single-sheet card with one insert and an envelope was listed at King of Cards for ₹5.90 (list price ₹11.80), for a minimum of 100 cards, with printing and shipping extra. Printed orders are dispatched 5 to 7 business days after you approve the proof.
- The same shop's maroon and gold scroll box card was ₹102.60, again for at least 100 and before printing.
- Supplier listings on IndiaMART's wedding-card directory started at ₹3 a piece, and its box wedding cards were mostly listed between about ₹100 and ₹450 a piece.
- In Chawri Bazar, Delhi's wholesale card market, DNA Hindi reported cards from ₹7 to ₹8 and trendy designs up to ₹200 to ₹300. That was April 2022, so check current prices.
Why the per-card figures disagree
Published per-card averages for printed wedding cards disagree because they count different things. Check these five before comparing two quotes.
- Blank or printed. Many listings are for the blank card. Printing your names and wording is quoted separately.
- Minimum order. King of Cards asks for 100 cards, IndianWeddingCard.com usually 50 (some designs from 10 at an extra charge) and Printo from 10. A small wedding still pays for the minimum.
- Inserts. Separate cards for the mehndi, sangeet or reception add about ₹12 to ₹40 each, by the second guide's estimate.
- Paper and finish. The same guide estimates that paper of 300 GSM or more adds 20 to 30 per cent, and that foiling can double the card rate.
- Envelopes and shipping. Some cards include a matching envelope and some do not. Online sellers usually add shipping at checkout.
What costs do families forget with printed cards?
Beyond the card itself, a printed invitation costs money to deliver and often travels with sweets. Four lines are easy to leave out of the budget: postage, petrol for hand delivery, sweets boxes and reprints after a change.
Speed Post charges for a wedding card since 1 October 2025
India Post revised its Speed Post tariff for documents from 1 October 2025, the first change since 2012, as set out in the Department of Posts' press release of 28 September 2025. Some websites still show the older rates. A card in an envelope is normally booked as a document; a box card may be booked as a parcel, so ask at the counter.
| Weight | Local | Up to 200 km | 201 to 2,000 km | Above 2,000 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 g | ₹19 | ₹47 | ₹47 | ₹47 |
| 51 to 250 g | ₹24 | ₹59 | ₹63 to ₹72 | ₹77 |
| 251 to 500 g | ₹28 | ₹70 | ₹75 to ₹86 | ₹93 |
Registration, under which only the addressee or someone they authorise can receive the item, adds ₹5 plus GST (Upstox's table splits every distance band). A single-sheet card with one insert and its envelope can stay under 50 g: King of Cards lists its single-sheet card at 32 g. A thick card with three or four inserts may cross 50 g into the next slab, so weigh one finished card at the counter before posting a hundred. Private couriers usually cost more; the second guide estimates ₹40 to ₹120 a card.
Hand delivery: petrol and afternoons
Many families still take cards to local relatives in person, and that visit is the point of it. The cost is mostly time, plus fuel: petrol was ₹102.12 a litre in Delhi and ₹111.21 in Mumbai on 3 October 2026, as listed by Business Today. As an example, 150 km of city driving in a car that does 12 km a litre uses 12.5 litres: about ₹1,277 in Delhi or ₹1,390 in Mumbai, spread over several days.
Sweets and dry-fruit boxes
A box of sweets or dry fruit given with the card can cost more than the card. Filled dry-fruit gift boxes on IndiaMART were listed from about ₹50 to over ₹1,000 a piece, most between ₹200 and ₹600, and the second guide puts a sweets box at ₹350 to ₹1,200. Many families give boxes only to close relatives, and that custom does not change with the format of the invitation.
Reprints after a change
A misspelt name, a new venue or a moved muhurat (the auspicious time your pandit ji gives) after printing means a reprint or a phone call to every family. The second guide estimates ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 for a reprint after a name error, and minimum orders of 50 to 100 cards can make even a short reprint cost as much as a full run. Cards already delivered stay as they were printed.
How many wedding cards should you print? (kitne card chhapwayein)
Print one wedding card per household, not one per guest, and add 10 to 15 per cent for late additions and spoilt cards. Velvet Knot advises a 10 per cent buffer and a destination-wedding planner's card guide 10 to 15 per cent, because a small reprint later costs more per card than extras in the first run.
The table assumes 3.5 guests per household, the middle of the 3 to 4 guests per card that the second guide uses. Change it for your own list: a joint family may be eight people on one card, and a colleague one.
| Guests | Households (cards) | With a 10% buffer | With a 15% buffer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 29 | 32 | 34 |
| 250 | 72 | 80 | 83 |
| 420 | 120 | 132 | 138 |
The 420 row uses the average guest count for local weddings in WedMeGood's 2025 wedding report, which surveyed more than 2,000 couples marrying between April 2025 and March 2026; destination weddings averaged 280. The couples were surveyed by a wedding-planning platform, so treat the figure as a reference point, not a national average. At a minimum order of 100, a 32-card wedding still buys 100 cards.
How much does a digital wedding invitation cost?
A digital wedding invitation is paid for once, and the same file or link reaches 30 families or 300 for the same price. Listed prices on 3 October 2026 ran from ₹70 for a template image to ₹6,999 for a video with custom caricatures, and from ₹999 to ₹2,999 for the standard packages of invitation-website studios.
Image e-cards and video invitations
| Format | What you get | Listed price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Template image e-card | A JPG or PDF with your names and details | From ₹70, plus ₹99 to remove the watermark on most templates; ₹599 at a video studio | Template site, video studio |
| Template video | Your details in a ready design, as a video file | ₹299 to ₹499 | E-card and video template site |
| Template video | Ready designs on a wedding-planning site | ₹500 to ₹6,999, many under ₹2,000 | Wedding-planning site's templates |
| Custom video | A 30-second Full HD MP4, 2 revisions, delivered in 1 day | ₹1,499 | A seller's listing on IndiaMART |
| Custom or caricature video | Studio-made videos, many with caricatures | ₹999 to ₹3,999; urgent orders ₹1,000 extra | Video-invitation studio |
Velvet Knot's guide puts animated videos at ₹3,000 to ₹15,000, so a film made from scratch can cost more than anything in the table. Image and video files have real strengths: a video plays offline once it has downloaded, carries music and forwards easily from one relative to the next, and an image opens on any phone. Their limits: a change means a new file sent again, a picture or video cannot hold a tappable map or calendar button, and each guest's name on it means a separate file for every guest.
Invitation websites
An invitation website is a link that opens in the phone's browser, with every function, venue and map on it; what a wedding invitation website is and how it works has the full comparison of formats. Studios price these links per wedding, not per guest.
| Packages listed | How it is paid | Source |
|---|---|---|
| ₹999 and ₹2,999, and a custom tier on request | Once | Studio's price page |
| ₹999, ₹2,499, and bespoke from ₹14,999 | Once, no subscription | Studio's price page |
| ₹1,999 for every design | Once | Studio's price page |
| From ₹2,499 | A package price; nothing per guest is mentioned | Studio's price page |
| From ₹999 including GST | Once, for unlimited shares | Studio's cost article, 29 Jun 2026 |
| Ours: Shagun ₹499 (list ₹999), Parivar ₹1,999 (list ₹3,999), Bespoke quoted | Once; a limited-time launch offer | Our packages |
Our prices sit in the last row as one data point among six. Shagun covers one function or a small gathering, up to 3 functions; Parivar covers a full shaadi with unlimited functions, a photo gallery, Hindi and English, and your own song. A design from the samples is ready within 1 day of the details arriving. Sadar Nimantran makes only invitation websites: it does not sell video files, image e-cards or PDFs, and it does not print cards.
What does a 420-guest shaadi cost three ways? (worked example)
For a 420-guest wedding, the example below comes to about ₹17,000 fully printed, ₹8,100 as a hybrid and ₹2,000 fully digital, before sweets. Every figure is an assumption you can swap for your own, and none of it is a quote.
- Cards: 120 households at 3.5 guests each, plus a 10 per cent buffer, gives 132 cards at ₹100 each including printing, inside the ₹40 to ₹150 band most couples spend.
- Post: 40 outstation families by Speed Post at ₹63 each (51 to 250 g, 201 to 500 km), before GST. The rest are delivered by hand.
- Petrol: Delhi's ₹102.12 a litre, in a car that does 12 km a litre.
- Sweets: boxes for 30 close families at ₹400 each, the same in every plan.
- Digital: an invitation website at ₹2,000, around the middle of the listed packages.
- Hybrid: printed cards for about 30 households of elders and close family, bought as a 50-card minimum order, with 20 delivered by hand and 10 by Speed Post. Everyone, card holders included, also gets the link.
| Cost line | Fully printed | Hybrid | Fully digital |
|---|---|---|---|
| Printed cards | 132 at ₹100: ₹13,200 | 50 at ₹100: ₹5,000 | None |
| Speed Post | 40 cards: ₹2,520 | 10 cards: ₹630 | None |
| Petrol for hand delivery | 150 km: ₹1,277 | 60 km: ₹511 | None |
| Invitation website | None | ₹2,000 | ₹2,000 |
| Total before sweets | ₹16,997 | ₹8,141 | ₹2,000 |
| Sweets for 30 close families | ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 |
| Total with sweets | ₹28,997 | ₹20,141 | ₹14,000 |
Left out of all three: GST on postage, the hours spent delivering, the petrol to take sweets round, and any reprint after a change. A video bought alongside the website would add ₹300 to ₹7,000 at the listed prices.
The second guide's 300-guest example reaches ₹78,000 printed, ₹38,500 hybrid and ₹22,500 digital. Its totals run higher mainly because it prints 300 cards at ₹150, one per guest rather than per household, adds ₹18,000 of sweets boxes (60 of them) to every plan and ₹9,000 of courier to the printed one, and puts both a ₹1,500 digital invitation and a ₹3,000 video into each digital plan. Both examples point the same way: the printed total grows with every family, and the digital one stays flat.
What changes the price of a digital invitation?
The price of a digital invitation rises with the work in it, not with the number of guests. These are the lines that move a quote, with a listed example where a seller publishes one.
- Number of functions. A full shaadi from tilak to reception has more to set out than a single function, and packages can be split by it: our Shagun covers up to 3 functions, Parivar any number.
- Languages, photos and music. A second language, a photo gallery and a song of your choice all add work. In our packages they come with Parivar rather than Shagun.
- Custom illustration. Caricatures of the couple move a video up the scale: a customised caricature template was ₹6,999 on one wedding-planning site.
- Rush delivery. One video studio charges ₹1,000 extra for urgent orders.
- Revisions. The same studio charges ₹499 for each round of changes after the first draft, so check how many rounds a package includes.
- Watermark removal. Template sites that add a watermark charge ₹49 to ₹299 to remove it.
Are digital invitations cheaper, and should you still print a few?
For most guest lists, yes: a digital invitation's price does not grow with each household, so it costs less than printed cards once a family invites more than a few dozen households. The cheapest printed cards are the exception, since 100 basic single-sheet cards can cost less than an invitation website before printing and postage. Many families still print a small run as well, and that is often the right call.
A printed card handed over in person is how many elders expect to be invited, and some keep the card for years. Print for the grandparents' generation, the senior relatives on both sides and anyone without a smartphone. For the closest few, a visit or a phone call matters more than either format. Then send the link to everyone, card holders included, so the map and the times are on their phone.
Many families also keep the custom of the pehla card (the first card, offered to Ganesh ji or the family deity), so follow your own elders on who gets a card first. How to send wedding invitations on WhatsApp covers the etiquette of sending to elders, and when to send wedding invitations covers the timeline from the first card to the last reminder.
If your family already has a printed card, Sadar Nimantran can match its colours and wording on the link, so the two read as one invitation. To see what a guest sees, open one of the samples below on your phone, or browse every wedding e-invite design.

Questions people ask
How much does a digital wedding invitation cost in India?
Listed prices in October 2026 start around ₹70 for a template image card and run to about ₹7,000 for a video with custom caricatures. Invitation websites, which carry maps and replies, were listed at ₹999 to ₹2,999 for standard packages, with bespoke work quoted higher. All of them are paid once for the whole guest list, not per guest.
How much does a printed wedding card cost per card?
Most couples spend ₹40 to ₹150 a card, within a wider range of about ₹15 to ₹500, and box invitations cost ₹500 to ₹2,000 or more. Before comparing quotes, check whether the price includes printing, inserts and envelopes, and what the minimum order is: many sellers ask for 50 or 100 cards.
How many wedding cards should we print for 400 guests?
Count households, not guests. At an average of 3.5 guests per household, 400 guests is about 115 families, so 127 cards with a 10 per cent buffer or 133 with 15 per cent. Recount with your own list, because joint families and single colleagues change the average a great deal.
How much does it cost to send a wedding card by Speed Post?
Since 1 October 2025, a Speed Post document up to 50 g costs ₹19 locally and ₹47 anywhere else in India, plus GST. A heavier card of 51 to 250 g costs ₹24 locally and ₹59 to ₹77 outstation, depending on distance. Registered delivery to the named person adds ₹5 plus GST.
Is an invitation website priced per guest or once?
Once. Every invitation-website studio checked for this guide that states its terms charges a single price per wedding, whether the link goes to 30 families or 300. What raises the price is the work in it: the number of functions, a second language, a photo gallery, custom illustration or a web address of your own.
What does a venue or time change cost with printed cards and with a link?
With printed cards, a change means a reprint, which one guide estimates at ₹3,000 to ₹10,000, or a phone call to every family, and cards already delivered stay wrong. With an image or video, you make and resend a new file. With an invitation website, the same link is updated and everyone who has it sees the new details.
Should we still print a few cards for elders?
Often, yes. Many elders expect a card in hand and some keep it, so a small run for grandparents, senior relatives and anyone without a smartphone is money well spent. Send them the link as well, so the map and the times are on their phone, and visit or call the closest few yourself.
