Griha Pravesh Invitation Message in Hindi and English: 18 Wordings
Card and WhatsApp wording for a new home, laid out the way a printed Hindi card reads: the puja, the muhurat, the address and the bhoj. Each Hindi wording has a Hinglish twin.

In short
A griha pravesh invitation message names the family moving in, the puja planned (vastu puja, havan or Satyanarayan katha), the date and the muhurat time, the new address with a landmark or map pin, and the time of the bhoj or prasad. It ends by inviting guests sapariwar, with the whole family. Send the WhatsApp version one to three weeks before.

A griha pravesh is the first entry into a new home, with a puja at the muhurat (the auspicious time) your pandit ji gives and, often, a bhoj (a meal) for the guests after it. This guide sets out the wording in the order a printed Hindi card follows, for an independent house and for a flat in a society, and for a puja alone, a puja with lunch or an evening get-together. There are 18 wordings: formal card text, short WhatsApp messages, English and bilingual versions, and messages for elders and colleagues. Each Hindi wording has a Hinglish twin for people who type Hindi in English letters, and the bilingual card carries English under each line.
(What goes on a griha pravesh card, in order)
A griha pravesh card has eight parts, and most Hindi cards keep them in this order. A WhatsApp message can leave out the invocation, the elders and the names at the foot, but never the date, the muhurat time or the address.
- मंगलाचरण (the opening invocation): ॥ on a line of its own, and the Vakratunda shloka under it if you like. Some families add the name of their kul devta (family deity).
- शुभाशीर्वाद (with the blessings of): the grandparents or elders of the house, with स्व. (late) before anyone who has passed away.
- The invitation line: who is inviting and why, often opening with ईश्वर की असीम कृपा से (by God's boundless grace).
- The puja planned: गृह प्रवेश with वास्तु पूजन (vastu puja), हवन (havan, the fire offering) or श्री सत्यनारायण कथा (a puja with a recited katha, or story), whichever your pandit ji has advised. Name each one, so guests know how long the morning runs.
- The day, date and muhurat time: for example Write the time the way it is said aloud, with प्रातः, दोपहर, सायं or रात्रि before it.
- The new address: the house name or flat number, tower, society, sector or colony, city and PIN code, and a landmark. On WhatsApp, a map pin goes on its own line under the message.
- The bhoj or prasad: प्रीतिभोज दोपहर 1 बजे से (lunch from 1 pm), or पूजन के पश्चात प्रसाद ग्रहण करें (take prasad, the blessed food, after the puja), so guests know whether to eat before they come.
- The names at the foot: विनीत (the host, who signs humbly), दर्शनाभिलाषी (the relatives who look forward to seeing you) and a phone number. More on each term is in our guide to विनीत, दर्शनाभिलाषी and the other card words.
What should you write for a puja only, a puja with lunch, or an evening get-together?
The wording of a griha pravesh invitation changes with the kind of gathering, mostly in how the time is written and what guests are told about food. 99pandit's housewarming guide (updated 23 September 2026, reviewed by a pandit) describes most Indian families holding a griha pravesh puja and a havan, followed by a get-together. Which pujas you hold, and in what order, is for your pandit ji and your elders to say.
| Kind of function | What to stress | How to write the time | Example line |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puja only, for family and close friends | The muhurat, so guests are seated before it begins | One time: शुभ मुहूर्त प्रातः 9:15 बजे | पूजन के पश्चात प्रसाद ग्रहण करें। |
| Puja followed by lunch | Two times, so guests who cannot come early still come for the meal | |
| Satyanarayan katha with prasad | When the katha starts and when the aarti is, since late guests can still join the aarti | कथा प्रातः 11 बजे, आरती एवं प्रसाद दोपहर 12:30 बजे | कथा श्रवण कर प्रसाद ग्रहण करें। |
| Morning puja, evening get-together | Who is asked to which part; send the evening invitation on its own to friends and colleagues | A start and an end: सायं 7 बजे से रात्रि 10 बजे तक | सायं 7 बजे से स्नेह मिलन एवं रात्रि भोज। |
What is the formal Hindi wording for a griha pravesh card?
Formal Hindi wording for a griha pravesh card follows the eight parts above in full. The five wordings below suit a printed card or the text inside an invitation link; change everything in square brackets, and follow your family's custom for the opening line and for who signs.

A WhatsApp message for a griha pravesh needs only four things: what the function is, when it is, where it is, and the invitation link or map pin on a line of its own. Two to four lines are enough, because the card or the link carries the rest. The same pattern for a wedding, with reminders, is in our guide to wedding invitation messages for WhatsApp.

The [surname] familyHow do you invite elders and colleagues to a griha pravesh?
Call elders before you send them a griha pravesh invitation. A message that follows a phone call reads as a reminder of what you said, while a message on its own can feel like a circular to a tau ji or a nani who expects to hear your voice. Customs differ between families, so follow your own elders on who is called or visited first.

Warm regards,
[Your name]How do you write the muhurat time and a flat's address?
Write the muhurat as the time your pandit ji gives, with the part of the day before the number: प्रातः 9:15 बजे, not 9:15 AM, on a Hindi card. Write a flat's address from the smallest unit to the largest (flat, tower, society, sector, city) and then say which gate guests should use.
Writing the time: प्रातः, दोपहर, सायं, रात्रि
| Time of day | On a Hindi card | In Hinglish | In English |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning | प्रातः 9:15 बजे | praatah 9:15 baje | 9:15 am |
| Noon | दोपहर 12 बजे | dopahar 12 baje | 12 noon, not 12 pm |
| Afternoon | दोपहर 1:30 बजे से | dopahar 1:30 baje se | from 1:30 pm |
| Evening | सायं 6 बजे | saayam 6 baje | 6 pm |
| Night | रात्रि 8 बजे से | raatri 8 baje se | from 8 pm |
| A muhurat window | प्रातः 9:15 से 10:40 बजे तक | praatah 9:15 se 10:40 baje tak | 9:15 to 10:40 am |
- Give the muhurat and the bhoj separate times, so guests who cannot come early still know when to arrive.
- If the muhurat falls before sunrise or late at night, consider keeping that hour for the household and close family, and give other guests the time of the puja or the bhoj instead.
- Avoid 12 am and 12 pm, which people read both ways: write दोपहर 12 बजे or रात्रि 12 बजे, or 12 noon and midnight in English.
- Ask guests to be early if the muhurat is fixed to the minute: कृपया मुहूर्त से 15 मिनट पहले पधारें।
Writing the address of a flat
A flat in a gated society needs more than a postal address, because guests have to get past the gate, find the tower and park. 99pandit's guide advises the complete address and a simple map that highlights a landmark; on WhatsApp, a map pin does that job.
- Flat and tower: फ़्लैट [नंबर], टावर [नाम], with the floor if the flat number does not show it.
- Society and sector: [
- Gate: which gate is open to visitors, and a line that the guard will ask for the flat number.
- Parking: where visitors park, or the nearest place to leave a car if the society has no visitor parking.
- Landmark: something seen from the main road, such as a metro station, a school or a temple.
Sending a map pin instead of directions
A map pin replaces a paragraph of directions. In the Google Maps app on Android, you drop a pin by touching and holding the map, then share it from the place's name at the bottom of the screen (Google Maps Help, checked 3 October 2026).
- Open Google Maps on your phone and find the new home.
- Touch and hold the spot where guests should arrive, such as the visitors' gate, to drop a pin.
- Tap the pin's address at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Share and choose WhatsApp, or copy the link.
- Paste the link on its own line in your message, under the word लोकेशन or नक़्शा.
- Open the link once yourself to check it lands at the gate and not at the back wall of the society.

When and how should you send a griha pravesh invitation? (kitne din pehle)
Send a griha pravesh invitation one to three weeks before the date, and earlier to anyone who has to travel. 99pandit's housewarming guide (updated 23 September 2026) suggests at least two weeks. Treat that as a guide rather than a rule: a small puja for close family can go out later, as long as you call.
- Call first: ring elders and close relatives, then send the message or the card.
- One by one or a group: a family WhatsApp group is fine for the relatives already in it, but a message to each guest reads as personal. A broadcast list sends each person an individual message, but WhatsApp delivers it only to people who have saved your number, and one list holds up to 256 contacts (WhatsApp Help Center, checked 3 October 2026).
- Remind: send one line with the map pin the day before, or the morning of an evening get-together.
The fuller etiquette, written for weddings but true of most family functions, is in our guide on how to send wedding invitations on WhatsApp.
A printed card is still the better choice for elders who do not use a smartphone, and handing it over in person says more than any message. For a puja with ten close relatives, a phone call and a WhatsApp message with a map pin may be all you need.
An invitation link helps when the list is longer. Ours puts each guest's name on the cover, gives the puja a map button and an add-to-calendar button, and sends replies to you on WhatsApp with the number of people coming, which helps when you plan the bhoj. If the muhurat moves, the same link is updated. A griha pravesh with up to 3 functions, such as the puja, the katha and the bhoj, fits our Shagun package: ₹499 (ours, a limited-time launch offer; list price ₹999), in Hindi or English, with a design from the samples ready within 1 day of your details. See the griha pravesh invitation card for WhatsApp and our packages.

Questions people ask
How do I invite guests to a griha pravesh puja on WhatsApp?
Call elders and close relatives first. Then send each guest a short message saying what the function is, the date, the puja time and the meal time, with the invitation link or a Google Maps pin on a line of its own. For a flat, add the tower and the gate. Send a one-line reminder with the pin the day before.
How should the muhurat time be written on a griha pravesh card?
Write it the way it is said aloud in Hindi, with the part of the day before the number: प्रातः 9:15 बजे, दोपहर 12 बजे, सायं 6 बजे or रात्रि 8 बजे. If your pandit ji gives a window, write In English, write 9:15 am, and 12 noon rather than 12 pm.
How many days before the griha pravesh should I send the invitation?
One to three weeks before is a practical window, and a housewarming guide by 99pandit suggests at least two weeks. Relatives who have to travel should hear as soon as the muhurat is fixed. A small puja for close family can go out later if you phone as well. Send a short reminder the day before.
Can a griha pravesh invitation be in both Hindi and English?
Yes. A bilingual card puts each Hindi line first with the English under it, so elders and younger guests can both read it. On WhatsApp, send the Hindi message to relatives who write to you in Hindi and the English one to colleagues and friends.
