Suresh & Sunita's silver jubilee

Dear friends of Mummy and Papa,

Twenty-five years ago our parents had a wedding, and neither of us was invited. This time we are making the guest list. With the blessings of our elders, we invite you and your family to the silver jubilee of Mummy and Papa's marriage. Come and bless them, tell us the stories they have been hiding, and stay for dinner.

Our story

Then, and now

Two buses of baraatis, one blue scooter and twenty-five winters in Dehradun.

  1. 2002

    The wedding

    14 February, in Kotdwar. Two buses of baraatis left Dehradun and one arrived on time. The other came in time for dinner. Papa did not know it was Valentine's Day. Mummy did.

  2. 2003

    Two rooms and a scooter

    A rented two-room set in Dalanwala and a blue scooter. Every Sunday they rode to Sahastradhara with a tiffin of aloo paranthe between them.

  3. 2007

    Four of us

    Ishita came in 2004 and Aryan in 2007. The scooter retired. Nobody has slept late on a Sunday since.

  4. 2027

    Twenty-five years

    The same two people. Papa has a little less hair, Mummy has a few more opinions, and they still share one cup of chai at six every morning. Now it is our turn to throw the party.

    Twenty-five years in forty photographs. Then Ishita and Aryan say a few words about their parents. They have been told to keep it to five minutes. They will not.

    The menu is their wedding menu from 2002, as far as Dadi can remember it, plus everything Mummy wished had been on it. The jhangore ki kheer is confirmed.

  • By air

    Jolly Grant airport is about 45 minutes from the venue.

  • By train

    Dehradun station is about 20 minutes away. Tell us your train and Aryan will come in Papa's car, carefully.

  • Where to stay

    Rooms are kept for family coming from Kotdwar and Delhi. Mention it in your reply.

  • February nights

    About 7°C after dark. The hall is warm. The walk from the car is not.
