Heer's first Lohri

Lohri diyan lakh lakh vadhaiyan

Sat Sri Akal ji,

Waheguru has blessed our home with a daughter, and this is her first Lohri. Bebe ji has decided that a granddaughter's first Lohri calls for twice the rewri, so the fire will be big, the dhol will be loud and the saag has been on the stove since morning. Come with the whole family, warm your hands and bless our Heer.

  1. The main function

    Lighting the Lohri

    7 pm

    Grewal House, Sarabha Nagar

    Daar ji lights the fire with Heer in his arms. Then everyone walks around it, feeds it til, rewri, moongphali and phulle, and asks for a good year.

  2. Dhol, Gidda & Bhangra

    7:30 pm

    Grewal House, Sarabha Nagar

    Boliyan from the women, bhangra from the men, and the children going round asking for their lohri, so keep some coins in your pocket. The dholi is booked till ten. Chacha ji needs no booking.

  1. Lohri Dinner

    9 pm

    Grewal House, Sarabha Nagar

    Sarson da saag with white makkhan, makki di roti straight off the tawa, and gur. Afterwards rewri, gajak and moongphali by the fire. Shells go in the fire, not on the lawn. Bebe ji is watching.

  • By train

    Ludhiana Junction is about 15 minutes away. Send us your train and a car will be at the station.

  • By road

    From Chandigarh it is about two hours. Set out before the fog comes down.

  • A Poh night

    About 6°C, with fog. The fire warms only the side of you that faces it, so bring a shawl for the other.
