With the grace of Shri Ganesh ji and the blessings of our elders, the wedding of our son Nikhil with Mallika will take place up in the hills above Mussoorie. Please come with your whole family, climb the last bit of the hill with us, and bless the two of them as the sun goes down.

Our story

It started on the Mussoorie road

A girl from Delhi, a boy from Dehradun and about thirty hairpin bends.

  1. 2022

    The shared taxi

    Dehradun station to Mussoorie, in the rain. Mallika was car sick, Nikhil had elaichi. By the time the road stopped turning they were friends.

  2. 2025

    Lal Tibba, at sunrise

    Nikhil asked at the top. Mallika said yes, then asked where the chai was.

  3. 2027

    Phere at godhuli

    Back up the same road, this time with everyone we love. Bring the elaichi.

The functions

  1. Haldi

    10 am

    The apricot orchard, Deodar Dhar

    Under the apricot trees, with the dhol-damau warming up. Come ready to go yellow.

    4:30 pm

    The bonfire lawn, Deodar Dhar

    The women sing the mangal geet while the mehndi dries. The bonfire is lit at sundown, for cold hands and long stories.

    8 pm

    The hall with the fireplace, Deodar Dhar

    Delhi has rehearsed a dance for three months. Dehradun says it will just do the chhopati. We shall see.

  1. The main function

    Baraat, Jaimala & Phere

    4:30 pm

    The ridge lawn, Deodar Dhar

    At 4:30 the baraat walks the last stretch up the hill behind the dhol-damau. Jaimala at 5:30, phere at godhuli bela. Then dinner: kafuli, aloo ke gutke and jhangora ki kheer.

    Chai, mandua roti with ghee, and bal mithai for the road. Then the vidai, then the long way down.

Cars stop at the barrier near Char Dukan. Our shuttles run from there every fifteen minutes, so nobody climbs the hill in wedding shoes.

Getting here

  • By air

    Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is about two hours from the estate. Send us your flight and a car will be waiting.

  • By train

    The Shatabdi and the Nanda Devi Express run from Delhi to Dehradun. Tell us your train and someone will be on the platform.

  • The road up

    About an hour from Dehradun, and every minute of it a bend. Carry something for motion sickness and ask for the window seat.

  • April in the hills

    Sunny afternoons, about 12°C after dark. Bring a jacket for the phere. The spare shawls always go first.
