Nanhi Pari's Namkaran

॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥

The moon came down to our aangan and the stars sang a lori.A little pari has arrived, and the whole house is smiling.

Dear family and friends,

A little girl has arrived at our house, and nobody in it has slept properly since. With God's grace and the blessings of our elders, her namkaran sanskar is on her barhi. Please come with your whole family for the puja, hear her name, give her your blessings and stay for lunch.

Our story

Twelve days without a name

So far she has been called Nanhi Pari, Gudiya, Laddoo and, by her brother, “Baby”. She has not answered to any of them.

  1. Day 1

    She arrives

    Three kilos, a full head of hair and a cry the whole ward heard. Dada ji handed out laddoos to people he had never met.

  2. Day 6

    Chhathi

    Dadi put kajal in her eyes and left a pen and a blank page by her pillow, so that Vidhata could write her fate overnight. Dadi is sure it is a long and happy one.

  3. Day 12

    Barhi, and a name

    Pandit ji has given the letter, the family has finished arguing, and Bua ji will whisper the name in her ear. You already know it, so please act surprised.

    Pandit ji starts at ten sharp. The baby is allowed to sleep through it. Nobody else is.

    At the muhurat Bua ji whispers the name in her ear, and Dadi and her friends sing sohar to the dholak. After that she goes from lap to lap, collecting blessings.

    Lunch from 1 pm in the aangan: kachori, aloo ki sabzi, dahi vada and gajar ka halwa. Bua ji's neg is being settled at the same time, so expect some noise.

    Kanpur Central is about 20 minutes away. Tell us your train and Chacha will be at the station.

  • Parking

    Please park on the main road. The lane is full of chairs.

  • December in Kanpur

    Cold in the morning, kind by noon. Bring a shawl for the puja. Lunch is in the sun.
