Kabir turns one

Dear dadis, nanis, chachus and friends,

Our Kabir is turning one. In twelve months he has learnt to clap, to call everyone “Papa”, the dog next door included, and to take four steps before sitting down in protest. We have learnt to manage on four hours of sleep. Both feel worth a party. Please come with the whole family and bring him your blessings.

    The first smile

    Aimed at the ceiling fan, not at us. We took the credit anyway.

    The first tooth

    Found by Nani, who tapped his gum with a spoon and heard it. She has told everyone since. Also, he bites now.

    The first steps

    Four of them, from the sofa towards the phone, while Dada ji was on a video call from Jaipur. Dada ji says the boy was walking to him.

    The first birthday

    He has no idea it is coming. We have been planning since Diwali.

    Clubhouse lawn, Semal Residency

    Dada ji is bringing kites from Jaipur, and a charkhi that nobody else may touch. For the children there is passing the parcel and musical chairs. For the dadis and nanis, tambola.

    Tilak, Aarti & Cake

    Clubhouse lawn, Semal Residency

    Dadi does the tilak and aarti first. Then one candle, which Kabir will try to eat, and four cousins singing at full volume.

    Chaat from 5, dinner from 7:30. Return gifts are at the gate, one per child. Yes, we are counting.

  • By road

    About ten minutes from Golf Course Extension Road. If the map gets confused, call us and Nikhil will come to the gate.

  • Parking

    Visitor parking is just inside Gate 2, on the left.

  • A January evening

    The lawn gets cold after six. Sweaters for the children, shawls for everyone else. There are heaters near the food.
